Wisconsin Law Updates

The House Law Office is dedicated to the zealous defense of people charged with violation of criminal and traffic laws in municipal, state and federal courts.    Steven House has years of experience focused on criminal and traffic law with an emphasis on the defense of impaired driving, controlled substances offenses and appeals.  Our philosophy is that cases should go to trial where there is no substantial benefit to reaching a plea agreement and any possible issues for appeal should be preserved through representation and the trial court level even if a case is expected to be resolved by settlement.

The office is located directly across the street from the Dane County Courthouse in the historic Trelfall Building.   Please call to schedule an appointment for a free half hour consultation.  The House Law Office primarily represents clients throughout Wisconsin and will provide consultation on matters of federal drug and analogue act law nationally.

Client testimonials:

Mr. House was co-council for me over the past year for a case which could have landed me in prison for an extended period of time. It started out as a felony OWI causing great bodily harm, and at the beginning didn't look good for me at all. With the help of Mr. House, I was able to plea no contest to a misdemeanor charge of OWI causing injury and serve 90 days on house arrest. I don't believe that my case could have possibly worked out any better than it did. Mr. House's perseverance and knowledge of situations such as mine were invaluable. He communicated with the prosecutor on several occasions, researched similar situations and scientific findings, and sacrificed time with his family so I might be able to spend time with mine. In short, Mr House's integrity and professionalism are unmatched. Should I ever find myself in a similar situation, God forbid, without question my first call would be to Mr. House, and I would recommend him to anyone in need of legal assistance. - David. L.

Steven House went beyond what I would have expected of any lawyer. He not only represented my daughter in a compassionate professional manner, he also recommended and advocated a program for her that kept her out of prison but more importantly may finally give her the tools to live a drug free life. This was a program that was unknown to the judge, the probation officer and the district attorney. So, Steven having that knowledge and the desire to give my daughter the best chance at recovery was the best I could have ever hoped for in a lawyer. - Mary H.

(Successfully negotiated an alternative to revocation of probation on several felony charges and a sentence of probation on new residential burglary charges by arranging an intensive long term treatment and supervision plan that was likely to rehabilitate rather than just punish with prison.)

First off, kudos to you in getting my Forgery to Obtain a Prescription charge dropped - as you know I've been previously convicted of this charge and since the nature of both cases are essentially identical, it was both a relief and a bit frustrating to watch you dispatch this charge with skill and ease ... thank you very much for your legal wizardry in this matter - regardless of the outcome it was a relief to watch my legal counsel come out with both barrels blazin'.  - Barry K.

(One felony charge of obtaining a controlled substance by fraud was dismissed due to insufficient allegations in the criminal complaint.  The prosecutor declined to charge a second incident of the same conduct after the motion to dismiss was granted.)

Up a creek without a paddle - Thanks to you, I’m not there.  I couldn’t thank you enough for what you’ve done.  – Jeannie W.

(A second offense DUI charge where the defendant had a blood alcohol level well over the legal limit was dismissed upon a motion to dismiss for unlawful arrest where the court and prosecutor were persuaded that the arresting officer had falsified his reports and testimony with regards to field sobriety tests given to the defendant.)

There are no words to thank you enough for the excellent representation you gave our daughter.  We appreciate the efforts on your part to obtain her release and feel that you handled her case with the utmost concern and consideration.  You are by far the best representation she has ever had and we feel that you gave it your best.  We can never thank you enough.  - Sandra and David M.

Thanks very much.  You area a great attorney.  Best wishes with your practice in Madison. - Paul D.
(A harassment injunction was dismissed at a bench trial after cross examination demonstrated that the plaintiff-complainant lacked credibility.  The transcripts from the hearing later resulted in the dismissal of related criminal charges.)

"We as criminal defense lawyers are forced to deal with some of the lowest people on earth, people who have no sense of right and wrong, people who will lie in court to get what they want, people who do not care who gets hurt in the process.  It is our job - our sworn duty - as criminal defense lawyers, to defend our clients from those people"  -- Cynthia Roseberry
